Cyber Threats, Geopolitics & Partnerships

Wednesday, 17 June 2026, 12:00pm - 2:00pm

On behalf of the Trans – Tasman Business Circle and our partner Fortinet, we are pleased host a private executive luncheon featuring Simon Burson, Chief Information Security Officer at Auckland Council

Cybercrime is evolving at unprecedented speed. In the last year alone, the industrialisation of cybercrime has accelerated dramatically, with time-to-exploit collapsing and ransomware activity increasing significantly across both public and private sector organisations. At the same time, geopolitical instability, AI-enabled threats, and state-backed actors continue to reshape the cyber risk landscape facing New Zealand organisations.

This private discussion will bring together senior executives and security leaders for a practical and timely conversation on the evolving threat environment, the growing importance of resilience and containment strategies, and how organisations are adapting their approach to risk, governance and control in an environment where the rate of change continues to intensify.

Drawing on Simon Burson’s leadership experience within one of New Zealand’s largest and most visible organisations, and facilitated Glenn Maiden, Chief Security Officer (CSO), Fortinet Australia and Director of Threat Intelligence Operations ANZ, FortiGuard Labs the session will explore:

• The geopolitical impact on organisational cyber risk
• The rapid evolution of AI-enabled threats and cybercrime ecosystems
• Why organisations may need to prioritise containment and response alongside prevention
• The role of threat intelligence, partnerships and Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM)
• How leaders are thinking about resilience, security and operational readiness in a machine-speed environment

This will be a closed-door, peer-to-peer discussion held under Chatham House Rule, designed to encourage open dialogue and practical insight sharing among senior leaders navigating increasingly complex cyber and operational risk environments.

We would be honoured if you are able to join us for what promises to be a highly relevant and important discussion.

This event is private and by invitation-only. To express your interest in attending this event please contact events@buscircle.com.
